All Nature sustains us quietly, and, yet, never demands our attention or praise. The trees, for example, provide us oxygen. Our heart beats even when we are asleep, pumping blood through our vital organs. Our skin renews itself again and again, many times in a lifetime. The sky and the waters, like the earth, provide us food and drink. In this quiet way, we would do well to be more like Nature. Possibly, we would be helped to recall that to be holy simply means to be truly natural, for we are not only part of Nature, we are Nature.

The way of contemplative Grace means you do not need or want to proclaim the work you have done to get attention. You are the servant of the work, not the other way around. You were honored to be under the work, not the work under you. If you proclaim the work, you proclaim it to others that the work itself will be a blessing. Your work moves through you, takes shape through you, meaning you are the hands of "God" - and I do not mean that figuratively. You approach your work as you do life, in a quiet way, not compelled to call attention to yourself or receive congratulations or commendations, though you likely will from someone. You do your work, and at the end of the day you rejoice alone in the work. Your work is a temple you built to "God." You look at it and admire it and see its holiness and goodness. That is enough. You embody the quiet way, for quietness lives inside you and you emanate it to others, though they may not be able to know it or appreciate it, or the work you do quietly. And you know you will someday die, and someday likely no one will remember you or your work. And you know that is good, too.
